FOP: Embracing Nature's Thrill: Camp Yoshi's Summer with UBCO Bikes

From day one, Camp Yoshi has always been a safe haven for those seeking a deeper connection with nature, themselves, and community. Though we value a good dose of relaxation, we look forward to embracing the thrill of the outdoors just as much. This summer, our adventures reached new heights with the help of our newest Friend of the Program: UBCO Bikes. You know, if Yoshi’s doing bikes, we’ve got to do them the best. These bikes have seamlessly integrated into the essence of Camp Yoshi, enhancing our outdoor experiences and taking us on unforgettable journeys. Let's dive into some of our recent summer escapades and how these two-wheel machines instantly became one of our favorite toys.

This past July, at this year’s Overland West event, we fellowshipped, camped and chased adrenaline with a group of friends both new and old, venturing from Portland to Bend, then back again. Somehow we found time, during this multi-day journey, to take some of our staff members for a joy ride to test and rate the bikes on and off the road (and boy, were we happier for it). Alex Forestier, our talented lead photographer, was in attendance with us last month. First things first, as someone who captures the beauty of nature through the lens, Alex can recognize a pleasing aesthetic. The bikes' ability to complement and enhance the very landscapes they traverse was one of the first things to catch his eye. The UBCO Bikes effortlessly tackled off-road trails while remaining compact and easily transportable. His favorite touch? The addition of a built-in front pocket, perfect for camera and accessory storage. It made space for preserving the moments that defined the adventure. For Alex, the UBCO’s became more than just vehicles; they became staple tools on a visual journey.

Our close friend and loyal camper Tiffanni Spann's love for biking and adventure helped her embrace the UBCO Bike wholeheartedly. She’s used to riding electric bikes through the bustling streets of New York City’s Manhattan borough, so switching to off-road could’ve been a cause for concern, but instantly, Tiffanni said she “could feel the bike's stability and comfort” -- a harmony between technology and nature, which CY is no stranger to, and in fact a champion of. Transitioning from road to off-road trails, Tiffanni found herself immersed in the thrill, thanks to the bike's intuitive adjustments. As trees blurred past, she realized that the bike was a mode of transportation to the wild side of nature.

Since exploring the untamed wilderness at Overland West, we’ve taken our new gadgets on a few other adventures, sharing the thrilling experience with our Soho House campers, and our girl gang of campers from the most recent Lava Lands adventure. No matter where we’ve gone, the bikes proved their prowess.

As the sun sets on another incredible summer at Camp Yoshi, the memories linger in our hearts infinitely. These experiences weren't just about the destinations but about the journeys themselves. UBCO Bikes transformed our journeys into action-packed encounters with nature, allowing us to savor the moment and embrace the unexpected. They've seamlessly woven into the fabric of our Camp Yoshi experiences, enhancing our connections with nature and magnifying the thrill of exploration.
